Energy Efficiency Certificates for Existing Buildings
On 1 June 2013, the new Spanish Royal Decree on Energy Efficiency Certification for Existing Buildings will come into effect. In accordance with this decree, all property owners who sell or rent out their property will have to provide the buyer or tenant with the corresponding Energy Efficiency Certificate (Certificado de Eficiencia Energética). The aim is to promote energy efficiency by providing objective information to prospective buyers and tenants.
The certificate must be issued by an accredited control agency (Organismo/Entidad de Control) or qualified third-party specialist. Certificates are valid for 10 years.
